Role Summary:

The Director, Sales & Strategic Partnerships, will be responsible for developing new business opportunities, expanding strategic relationships, and driving revenue growth through advertising, sponsorship, and partnership initiatives. This role requires a blend of business development expertise, consultative selling, strategic thinking, and relationship management.


The ideal candidate is a proactive relationship builder who can understand client objectives, identify opportunities, and develop customized partnership solutions that create value for both clients and the organization. This individual will work closely with internal stakeholders to support partnership development, execution, and long-term growth.


Responsibilities:

  • Cultivate new revenue-generating relationships and expand existing strategic partnerships with advertisers, agencies, sponsors, and key stakeholders.
  • Develop a deep understanding of client business objectives, challenges, and priorities to create customized partnership recommendations and solutions.
  • Drive revenue growth through new business acquisition, account expansion, sponsorship sales, and integrated marketing opportunities.
  • Structure partnership programs and commercial agreements that deliver value for clients while supporting organizational growth objectives.
  • Monitor industry trends, advertiser activity, audience behavior, and emerging opportunities to inform partnership strategies and business development efforts.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, agencies, and industry stakeholders while identifying opportunities for long-term growth.
  • Manage multiple complex partnership opportunities and sales cycles simultaneously while maintaining a high level of organization and responsiveness.
  • Collaborate closely with sales, marketing, content, events, product, and leadership teams to ensure successful execution of partnership initiatives.
  • Track partnership performance and provide insights that support revenue growth, client retention, and strategic decision-making.
  • Continuously evaluate market conditions and business priorities to refine partnership strategies and identify new growth opportunities.
  • Serve as a visible ambassador for the organization through industry events, conferences, networking opportunities, and client engagements.
  • Present partnership recommendations, strategic opportunities, and business updates to internal stakeholders and executive leadership.


Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in strategic partnerships, business development, advertising sales, sponsorship sales, media sales, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated success developing and growing high-value partnerships that contribute to revenue growth and business expansion.
  • Experience within media, advertising, publishing, sponsorships, events, marketing, or related industries strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of digital advertising, integrated marketing programs, sponsorship opportunities, audience engagement strategies, and event partnerships.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, relationship-building, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to navigate complex sales cycles and engage effectively with senior decision-makers and executive stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills with the ability to leverage market insights and business intelligence to inform decision-making.
  • Experience using CRM platforms and sales management tools such as Salesforce or similar systems.
  • Familiarity with the Washington, DC media, public affairs, advocacy, association, or policy landscape is a plus.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment with evolving priorities and opportunities.
