Overview

We’re seeking a Director of Events who can leverage their experience, out-of-the-box thinking, and intuition to bring to life a portfolio of live events, including summits, forums, roundtables, and major flagship conventions. This role will work closely with senior leadership to plan and execute high-profile events, with full ownership of logistics, budget, vendor management, and show-calling. This will be an ideal opportunity for an experienced up-and-comer to transition from a Senior Management role into a Director-level position, with exposure to high-profile events and amazing long-term growth opportunities.

This company operates with urgency, curiosity, and low ego. Teams move quickly, think deeply, and care about doing meaningful work that changes how journalism functions on a global scale. This is an opportunity to step into a critical seat during a moment of growth, international expansion, and long-term financial maturation. Working as a trusted partner to senior leadership in directly contributing to how the organization expands.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end planning and execution of high-profile corporate, media, and client events, including executive summits, sponsored activations, and custom experiences across domestic and international markets
  • Manage sponsor and client relations from contract to delivery, ensuring exceptional service, engagement, and execution.
  • Oversee event budgets, timelines, project plans, and stakeholder communications to ensure seamless delivery and financial accountability.
  • Partner with creative leadership on event design, branding, and attendee experience strategy.
  • Source, contract, and manage vendors across AV, production, catering, décor, venues, and logistics.
  • Coordinate and lead event staffing, volunteers, and onsite operations, including setup, execution, and breakdown.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, permitting, and insurance requirements.
  • Identify and recommend innovative venues and event solutions in key markets, including DC, NY, and other major cities.
  • Provide hands-on operational and logistical support during load-in, event days, and post-event wrap-up.
  • Support other Event Functions as needed, for large-scale, flagship events.

What Makes This Role Different

  • Be part of a profitable and growing company that is redefining global journalism, not maintaining the status quo.
  • Culture of high standards, intellectual rigor, and work ethics that value fresh ideas and continuous improvement.
  • A genuine seat at the table, with exposure to senior leadership and stakeholders who are invested in your success.
  • High-impact, strategic, and operational Event Management role with full ownership and visibility.
  • Extensive growth opportunities and exposure to high-profile events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • 8+ years of large-scale corporate live-event production, management, and execution experience with major Trade Associations, Media, Politics, or Think Tanks.
  •  4+ years in event partner account management.
  • Willingness to travel – 1 week per month (domestic and international).
  • Strong ability to build and maintain client relationships while delivering exceptional partner experiences.
  • Well-established network of Washington, DC-based event vendors and venues.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset, strong problem-solving skills, and ability to operate in a fast-paced start-up.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Keynote/PowerPoint, and Excel.
